- Fire and Rehire
The Government has launched a consultation on a proposed statutory code of practice on the use of fire and rehire practices to change employees’ contractual terms. One key proposal being that a court could uplift compensation if the code is not followed.
- Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Bill
This Bill is currently in the House of Lords. If these changes come into force they will extend current protection against redundancy so it applies during pregnancy, maternity, adoption and shared parental leave and for 6 months after that leave ends.
- Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Bill
This Bill is also currently in the House of Lords, if it receives royal assent it will mean an employer is liable if a third party harasses an employee or job applicant in the course of their employment if the employer has failed to take all reasonable steps to prevent this. Employers will also have a duty to take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of its employees in the course of their employment with an uplift in compensation possible if the employer has failed to do so. The intention is also to have a statutory code of practice on sexual harassment and harassment in the workplace.
