- National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage is increasing
These are due to increase imminently on 1 April 2023 (£10.42 per hour for those aged 23 and over), so please make sure you carry out an audit and have processes in place to make any necessary increases to current and future staff.
- Statutory Pay is Increasing
Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental pay will all increase from 10 April 2023 to £172.48 a week. Statutory sick pay also increases to £109.40 a week.
- Special Bank Holiday Coming Soon
Don’t forget there is an additional bank holiday this year celebrating the King’s coronation on Monday 8 May 2023. Employees are not automatically entitled to this unless their employment contract is wide enough to state that employees are entitled to all UK bank holidays (most simply specify that holiday entitlement includes 8 bank holidays). You will therefore need to check your employee contracts and decide whether to give this as an additional day off or if you require employees to work the day or take it as annual leave and communicate this carefully to them in advance. Careful consideration may need to be given to any part time employees in particular to make sure they are not less favourably treated by the approach you decide to take.
